Avoca is a beautiful area with tall river red gums surrounded by the backdrop of the Pyrenees Ranges with many wineries in the region producing some of Australia's finest vintages. The town hosts many annual events including three horse race meetings at the Avoca Shire Turf Club, two petanque weeked tournaments, "Heroes in Hot Rods", Christmas Eve, Easter and Australia Day street parties plus much more.
Dunolly is a small town of approximately 700 people, with a quiet charm and beautiful historic buildings situated amidst attractive bushland, 23km north of Maryborough. Dunolly has many sidewalk cafes and tea rooms and with a lively weekend Main Street Market each month and many historical attractions, Dunolly has much to offer, including a Gilbert & Sullivan Festival held in October every two years as well as being part of the region's annual Words in Winter Festival.
Maryborough is central to the larger towns of Ballarat and Bendigo and approximately a two hour drive north west of Melbourne. Maryborough is renowned for its alluvial gold, but also has fine foods and local wines with cosy cafes and bakeries. There are many activities available including tennis, golf, bowls, fishing and swimming as well as extensive cycle tracks around the region. Maryborough is also host to the annual RACV Energy Breakthrough, as well as the Maryborough Highland Gathering, Australia's oldest continuous running sporting event, held each New Year's Day.
