Buddies have fun at Planned Activity Group
Grade one students from Dunolly Primary School have been “buddying up” with clients from Maryborough District Health Service’s (MDHS) Dunolly Planned Activity Group (PAG). The schools grade one students have been paying regular visits to the Dunolly Planned Activity Group visits throughout the year.
For the whole year grade one students have visited the MDHS PAG program once a month and become buddies with PAG clients. A recent activity involved dressing-up to celebrate a Day at the Races, with special guest Rachel Buckley judging the “Fashions on the Field”. A race was run using dice, with the buddies winning a delightfully raucous but affable contest.
It is the fourth year that MDHS Lifestyle coordinator for PAG Nita Fish has continued a relationship with Dunolly Primary School.
Grade one teacher from Dunolly Primary School, Carla Scholes said that the children had formed a special bond with their PAG buddies.
“They really look forward to the visits’ Carla said. “The children really love it.”
Nita works with a hand-full of dedicated volunteers, who regularly assist her with the twice weekly PAG Program.
Nita is passionate about ‘making a difference’ to improve the quality of life for PAG clients and the community. “Our clients absolutely love the time with their student buddies. I’m not sure who benefits the most – I think we all benefit all around”.
