Avoca Nursing Home was built in 2003 and provides 19 high care beds. The Hostel, or low care facility, has 10 beds.
Prior to admission, potential residents and family members are orientated to the facility and encouraged to contribute information that will assist the transition from community life to residential care, and assist staff to provide excellent holistic care, optimise independence and maximise resident satisfaction.
Resident and relative meetings are held bi-monthly with a resident Chairperson presiding. These meetings have been very productive with several improvements coming from residents' suggestions. A monthly newsletter is sent out to residents and/or family members. Any person wishing to contribute to the newsletter is most welcome.
Social activities often involve community groups as well as residents, relatives and staff. Several residents also belong to the local Senior Citizens Club and attend functions whenever possible.
